Indigo Souls & Sensitives – Why You Feel Different & What It Means

Sensitivity Is a Gift, Not a Burden

Many Indigos and empaths find themselves diagnosed with various mental health conditions, struggling with scattered thoughts, impulsive energy, or even depression. While therapy and retreats may offer temporary relief, they often don’t address the energy mechanics behind why Indigos feel this way in the first place.

The truth is, you are not “too much” or “too sensitive.” You simply have more energy receptors open than the average person. These heightened sensitivities allow you to tap into deeper wisdom, but if left unmanaged, they can lead to overwhelm, anxiety, or even panic attacks.

Why Indigos Feel Overwhelmed

One of the biggest challenges for Indigos is learning to separate their own energy from others. Many highly sensitive people unknowingly match the emotions, thoughts, and energy of those around them, which can lead to:

  • Emotional overload

  • Anxiety or sudden mood shifts

  • Feeling drained without knowing why

  • Experiencing emotions that don’t belong to you

A perfect example of this is a story I am writing about in my upcoming book—a 9-year-old boy who had a meltdown hours after hugging his grieving aunt. The intense energy of her sorrow resonated in his space, and it wasn’t until later, in the middle of a fun bowling game, that it erupted into a full emotional breakdown. This happens more often than we realize, especially for sensitive souls.

Energy Management Is the Key

Understanding and managing your energy is crucial to thriving as an Indigo Soul. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by external energy, here are a few ways to start protecting yourself:

  • Energy Boundaries Awareness: Learning to identify what energy belongs to you and what doesn’t.

  • Energy Clearing: Learn to release energy that isn’t yours by visualizing a grounding cord like a trash chute under you, which then lets go of everyone else’s energy.

  • Developing Clairvoyant Skills: Strengthening your ability to see, know, and discern energy instead of matching it and feeling where someone else is in your body.

Indigos Are Here for a Bigger Purpose

Indigo Souls are not here by accident, to hide or just to get through this. You are part of a wave of spiritually aware individuals helping humanity transition into a higher level of consciousness. But, just like on an airplane, we must put on our own oxygen mask first before helping others.

By learning to manage your energy, embrace your sensitivities, and develop your intuitive gifts, you can move from feeling overwhelmed to stepping into your true power. The world needs what you have to offer—it’s time to own it.
