Discovering Your Own Spiritual Gifts and Learning to Trust What You Know
This past weekend, I stopped by a local psychic fair. I wanted to spend a little time around like-minded people, perhaps pick up a few crystals, and see what interesting things people were offering.
I noticed a man doing healings that looked quite interesting. He also had some jewelry on display, so I asked him about purchasing a piece.
He explained that the jewelry wasn't simply for sale. He would need to personally tune it to my energy before I could purchase it.
I thanked him and walked away.
Now, I have nothing against someone tuning jewelry or offering specialized healing services. There are many wonderful practitioners doing beautiful work.
But the exchange got me thinking.
Later, I wandered into a classroom where a woman was preparing to offer a group healing.
She began going into trance and announced that she was channeling several great spiritual beings. Within moments, she was speaking in tongues and directing healing energy toward everyone in the room.
I've studied and practiced trance mediumship and energy healing extensively over the years, so these practices are not unfamiliar to me.
But something about this experience didn't ring true.
It wasn't the trance or the unusual language. It was the shift in the energy of the room to a different set of beings than she described and the apparent willingness of everyone in the room to accept what was happening because the practitioner said she was channeling these beings.
I found myself wondering:
Have we somehow been programmed along the way to stop trusting our own discernment?
Were people consciously participating in the healing, or simply accepting whatever was being offered because it was presented as coming from a higher source?
‘Listen to the leader, just as we have been trained since elementary school.’
I didn't feel the authenticity I was looking for, so I quietly walked out.
Perhaps others found the experience meaningful. But for me, it raised an important question.
When did someone else's spiritual experience become more authoritative than our own knowing?
Hold Onto Your Crown
As I wandered through the fair, I watched people moving from booth to booth, looking for answers, guidance, reassurance, and healing.
And I understand that completely. I love receiving a good healing from a skilled practitioner as much as anyone!
Yet something about the atmosphere struck me.
There seemed to be an invisible separation between the people on one side of the booths and those on the other.
On one side were the gifted psychics and healers. On the other were people seeking answers, many perhaps believing they didn't possess those same abilities themselves.
But aren't we also told that everyone is psychic? That intuition is a natural part of who we are?
So where is the balance?
I am certainly not suggesting that we shouldn't receive readings or healings. Even after all these years of teaching clairvoyance, I still receive readings and energy checks myself. They help me keep my energy current and recognize when I've become caught up in someone else's space.
But here's the distinction.
Receive the healing from Source. Appreciate the practitioner's talent . And hold onto your crown.
Your crown represents your own certainty, spiritual authority, and ability to recognize what's true for you.
We can be open to extraordinary spiritual experiences without abandoning our discernment.
Spiritual sovereignty isn't about refusing help or questioning everything someone offers. It's about remaining conscious, discerning, and present in your own space, even when someone else is offering an extraordinary spiritual experience.
Hanging With Rockstars
The psychic fair reminded me of something that happened years ago when I worked with some of the top rock musicians in the world.
One week, I was like everyone else, watching these famous performers on television or listening to their music. The next, I was working on their team, sitting down to meals together, and participating in their everyday lives.
What changed?
I hadn't changed. They hadn't changed.
They needed my particular skill set, a friend recommended me, and I was available.
The musicians were still extraordinarily talented. But suddenly, that invisible separation between the person on stage and the person watching from the audience was gone.
We were simply people with different gifts and skills.
And that brought me back to the psychic fair.
Are some people born with special intuitive gifts while others have none? Or are we simply at different stages of recognizing and developing our abilities?
Think about music. Some people are born with extraordinary talent. Others discover their abilities later or develop remarkable skills through training and practice. We can all enjoy singing in church or around a campfire.
Not everyone becomes a concert percussionist, but that doesn't mean music belongs only to the exceptionally gifted.
Why should spiritual awareness be any different?
I believe we all have the capacity to develop greater spiritual awareness, although our individual abilities may be quite different.
Someone else's gifts don't diminish our own.
What Does It Really Mean to Be Clairvoyant?
There's a misconception that being clairvoyant means you can see everything, know what everyone is thinking, or somehow have access to all of the answers.
That's not how it works.
Clairvoyance is about learning to consciously tune into the subtle world of energy that exists all around us.
It's not about being switched on all the time. Part of the training is learning when and how to tune in, and when to simply go about your day.
We don't need to know everything about everyone!
Instead, we develop techniques to explore what's happening in our own lives.
Why does a particular relationship feel challenging? Why do I feel uncomfortable in certain environments? Am I making this decision from my own certainty, or responding to someone else's expectations?
The goal isn't to become all-knowing. It's to become more aware, discerning, and comfortable being yourself.
What Changed When I Began to See Differently
Before studying clairvoyance, I had already spent approximately six years in esoteric meditation training focused on service to humanity.
Yet when I began clairvoyant training, I was astounded by what I discovered.
I began to understand myself and the world around me in ways I hadn't before.
Some of the things I had considered my greatest problems turned out to be connected to my greatest gifts!
My sensitivity, my awareness of other people's energy, and the ways I experienced the world began to make much more sense.
I learned to recognize when I was in my own energy and when I had become caught up in someone else's.
And I discovered something enormously valuable.
I could learn to find my own answers.
Not because I suddenly knew everything, but because I had developed techniques to explore what was happening rather than automatically accepting someone else's interpretation.
It's not primarily about becoming a professional psychic or predicting the future.
It's about learning to use your spiritual awareness in everyday life.
As you develop these skills, you may find that relationships become clearer, your sensitivity becomes an asset rather than a burden, and decisions become easier because you're learning to recognize your own knowing.
You begin to discover that some of the qualities you once considered weaknesses may actually be your greatest strengths.
And you learn practical ways to maintain your own energy rather than constantly being affected by the people and environments around you.
Just last night, my advanced clairvoyant class explored their relationships with their mothers. Rather than focusing on old stories or trying to change anyone, students looked clairvoyantly at their mothers as souls, recognizing their unique gifts and challenges. They then cleared the energy in their communication spaces.
What struck me was how much freedom and understanding students experienced afterward. Nobody had called their mother or tried to change her. They had simply worked with their own energy and discovered a different perspective.
Sometimes, when we change the energy we're holding about someone, our experience of that relationship changes too.
This is one of the things I love about developing our spiritual awareness: we begin to recognize that we have tools to make changes within ourselves.
Remember What You Already Have
One of the things that struck me at the psychic fair was that among all the booths offering readings and healings, I noticed only one offering people the opportunity to discover and develop their own abilities.
It reminded me of the old saying about teaching someone to fish rather than simply giving them a fish.
There is tremendous value in receiving a healing, a reading, or guidance from someone with experience. I continue to do that myself.
But there is also something wonderful about discovering that you have access to your own spiritual awareness.
You don't have to become a professional clairvoyant or healer. You don't have to see everything or know everything.
You can simply begin to pay attention to the subtle world around you, recognize your own responses, and become more conscious of the energy you're bringing into your relationships and daily life.
Perhaps the most valuable discovery is that you don't need to change who you are. You may simply need to understand yourself differently.
And when you recognize your own gifts, you no longer need to place someone else's above yours.
So enjoy the healing. Learn from others. Explore your own gifts.
And hold onto your crown.
